Loose ends

Hi everyone! Just a few quick, random remarks this time.

- First of all, I'd like to thank all of you who commented on my Vogue dress posts. I don't feel so silly anymore for not getting this dress to work for me ;)

- Did anyone blog about and link to my first post about culottes? I'm just asking because, in the past week, I've received no less than four new comments on a post I did back in winter. They were all very nice and I hope those people have seen there is a tutorial in a later post.
Just for the record, of course you can link to my blog posts and tutorials, I love getting new visitors! I'm just curious what sparked the renewed interest in the culottes.

- I was going to complain about some Anonymous spam comments I've received (things which are written sort of like real comments, just without making reference to the actual content of my blog. and they all include a link), but after I deleted the first one, blogger spam filters seem to have kicked in so they no longer appear on to site (I just get them through the email).
Even before I found out about the spam filter, I was going to write that although I don't like getting spam, I'm not going to make anonymous commenting impossible because I have also received very nice comments from real people, who just don't happen to have an online alter ego which blogger can recognize. I don't want them to feel unwelcome.

- About the twisty top... Yes, I will make a pattern.
Just, please, be patient. I will be very busy with work for the coming 2 - 3 weeks. I'll try to keep up regular posting but there won't be time for any big projects. After that, I will get to work on it and make a multi-size pattern with instructions.

- And last but not least, I have, in fact, been sewing a bit this past week. I made E another pair of summer trousers. They don't get their own post because there's just one difference compared to the previous pair

  1. Lauriana, do you look at the STATS tab in your blogger dashboard? It tells you how people are getting to your site. What search words they use in search engines, what the most common referring sites are, what browsers they use where they are located in the world. I love the statistics -- you can learn a lot. :)

And, yes, the spam filters learn. I have set my blog so that comments on posts over 30 days old are moderated. Then I receive an email when the comments come in. Very often those are the spam comments, and I mark them as spam and delete without ever publishing.

    I enjoy your blog!

  2. I was sorry your Vogue dress didn't fit well, though that seems the norm with Big 4 patterns, sad to say.

I'm always interested to see blogger's views on comment filtering. I hate word verification on other blogs and would rather sift through the occasional spammer on my blog than subject my readers to it, and lose comments to boot!

It's funny how a post will become popular out of the blue. I posted a review of Metric Pattern Drafting and it's easily my most popular post. I hope you figure out why you got a spike in views.

  4. That's kinda funny, bc I didn't comment but I went searching for your culottes post last week! My reason was that I had to change out of my flowy crescent skirt at a cook-out after the wind threatened to "expose" me multiple times! I had seen the culottes on Burda and thought they might be a nice alternative. :)

  5. Looks like the mystery is solved! Every once in a while I get a weird spike from something like this. Usually I can track it down from my wordpress dashboard. :)

Take your time about the shirt pattern---we'll be waiting when you have time (I sure don't have time to take on extra projects right now!)

E's new pants look great, too---I gather the curved pockets have worked out better? :)
